Michigan’s AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month

Jessica, affectionately known as “Lovy” to all, is a true logistics guru who understands that service should be a vehicle for change. Jessica has been with City Year Detroit for nearly three years and has positively impacted the organization in a number of ways.

Jessica first served as a City Year Detroit AmeriCorps member at the Phoenix Academy in Southwest Detroit. She excelled in her site placement, never shying away from a task and always being prepared to help her students. Jessica decided to do a second year of AmeriCorps service, this time serving as a Team Leader at the same school. She successfully led her team through a powerful year of service and provided them with the guidance needed to raise the overall grade point average of the students they served by nearly 1.75 points!

Jessica’s leadership and enthusiasm led to her current full-time position as a Program Manager with City Year Detroit. She is responsible for supporting and overseeing a team of six Corps members throughout their year of service. Although she’s relatively new to the role, Jessica has embraced the opportunity and rallied around each new endeavor her team and school undertakes. She greets every challenge as a problem-solving opportunity, and a way for her team to learn and grow.

Jessica has gained the trust of her team and is known for her ability to suspend judgment. “Jessica truly listens to everyone she encounters,” stated Corps member Jennifer Kern. “Her willingness to empathize and go the extra mile for everyone she leads and works with makes her an excellent supervisor. Jessica’s warm smile, equitable approach to leadership, stellar communication skills, and uncompromisingly strong work ethic are all reasons Jessica deserves to be recognized as the Michigan’s AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month!”
